Hi there
We have a new issue out! Here are the details.
27 September 2007
Media Information
Aesthetica Magazine is rising steady and fast
Aesthetica Magazine is the UK's cultural arts publication. The magazine provides a current up-to-date 21st century perspective on British arts and culture. Founded in 2002, Aesthetica Magazine is the only British arts magazine to cover literature, visual arts, music, film and theatre in one single issue.
Aesthetica Magazine has an expanded readership of 45,000, a new bi-monthly publishing schedule, and national distribution through WH Smith and Borders, the magazine from Yorkshire extends far and wide.
Providing readers with current information from the arts world, Aesthetica Magazine is here to stay. Issue 19 (out 1 October 2007) features: Caryl Phillips, John Pilger, Thurston Moore, Jackie Kay, The Future Can Wait: The New School London, The Turner Prize preview, and much more including new artwork and writing.
Editor, Cherie Federico, says “Aesthetica Magazine has come a long way, in a short space of time. The magazine looks at the interdisciplinary nature of the arts, and brings together some of the best creative talents in the country. I started this publication nearly five years ago, and it’s wonderful to see what it has become. I am excited about the future. “
In May 2007, the Guardian, said, “Aesthetica is going from strength to strength”. With an ethos of creativity and diversity, Aesthetica Magazine demonstrates the interdisciplinary nature of the arts, and embodies that very concept within its pages.
At £4.50 an issue, get involved. Check out a copy of Aesthetica Magazine today. www.aestheticamagazine.com

Back for good...sort of
Ahoy There
My name is Alice and I've been working at Aesthetica Magazine since May. This is my first day back after taking almost a month off and I don't know how they have survived without me. The crux of my work at Aesthetica so far has involved helping my co-workers pronounce words correctly in Welsh and overusing the phrase "that band have played at Fibbers".
For a change today I decided to do some real work by interviewing the artist Ant Macari about his current exhibition at the Baltic that will appear in Issue 20 that comes out in December. We've just received Issue 19 back from the printers and it looks fantastic, definitely the best issue to date!
The UK arts scene is as vibrant and exciting as it has ever been and working at Aesthetica has really given me an insight into how much talent and creativity we have in this country. I can't wait to see what is around the corner, I know it's going to be something great.
Ta-rah for now!

What a summer!!
Hello everyone! My name is Leanne and I have been an intern at Aesthetica Magazine for three months, well it was supposed to be, but I kinda had a few too many holidays and therefore have worked at Aesthetica Magazine for a whole summer!!
My time here has been great, I have learnt many things about the magazine industry that I was oblivious to before. It's hard work, enjoyable yet challenging, and the team here at Aesthetica work so hard to achieve the final product.
As I have been here all summer I have seen the magazine develop, learnt about future ideas for the magazine and even written a few pieces myself. I will miss my time here very much, except for the long bus journey's which usually entailed me falling asleep and nearly missing my stop!! I wish everyone all the best for the future and I shall spread the word, as I am adamant that Aesthetica will go from strength to strength.
Love Leanne x x x

Hello and Goodbye
Hello There
My name is Louise and I am an intern here at Aesthetica, I won't be for much longer though as today is my last day. Its sad I know, I've only just introduced myself to the readers of the Aesthetica Blog and I'm Leaving
I have been here for about a month and working for Aesthetica is unlike anything I have done before. All the team here are really friendly and the interns are made to feel like they are part of the magazine making process. I get really chuffed when someone subscribes or we get good feedback, I think 'yay, I helped to get that!'
I've learnt a lot in my short time here and definitely enjoyed myself, I want to continue working in the Arts and maybe even at a magazine(Dale tells me I can have a job as his assistant when Aesthetica goes global and I'm going to make sure he keeps his word so long as he pays well!)
There are lots of things I'm going to miss, discussing celebrity spotting with Sam, Dale telling me funny stories of previous interns, Debs and Cherie's sing alongs, all the interesting arts events and people I have learnt about and of course the chair I sit in, its great!
So thats my hello and goodbye! Thanks for reading.

Birthdays, halls and making magazines
I once dreamt that it was my birthday and this elaborate hall was filled with people. Half of them came to see me, and the other half paid £10 to see me. I remember not being able to decide whether I should spend more time talking to the people who came to see me, or to the people who paid to see me. I have often wondered about that dream and thought, if in any way, it could be an insight in to my inner self. That was a few years ago now, and thinking about it I’ve realised that it was simply just a dream and doesn’t reveal anything about my personality. I guess the only reason why I thought about it is because today is my birthday.
Well let me introduce myself. My name is Dale, I’m 31 today and I’m one of the directors of Aesthetica Magazine. I do many things here from assisting with the general running of the magazine to coming up with new areas of growth and development. My main responsibility is making the magazine. I have just finished putting together the October to November issue and at the moment it is currently being printed. This is the first issue that I have made with our new bi-monthly publishing schedule. I had one month less to make it, however strangely enough I felt I had more time to be experimental. I particularly like this issue, so keep your eyes open for it. It will be available from 1 October.
Today has been a really good day. I've been eating endless amounts of birthday chocolates and sweets. So guess I am going to finish off a few loose ends then go and celebrate my birthday. Maybe I’ll see if I can find that hall full of people.

The art of understanding
Good afternoon
I thought that I would take a moment to write a few things down. Being the Editor of Aesthetica Magazine is a wonderful job. However, working with the public requires to art of understanding human nature. Working in the media as well as running my own business is amazing, however at times it must be said that you have to deal with very rude people. The art of getting around this, is to realise that people can sometimes be just plain nasty. Take today, for example, we had a very nasty email from someone that received a free sample copy of the publication. What strikes me as totally bizarre is someone having a beef with something that they didn't even pay for! I don't get it. I guess it's all about being the bigger person. I am pretty good at that, maybe that's why the magazine has grown so much over the past couple of years.
I really feel from the bottom of my heart that the world would be a completely different place if we were all nice to each other.
Cheers

that friday feeling
Hi everyone, I'm Rachel and I've been here on work experience for the past 2 weeks. It's a brilliant, brilliant place to work. Creative, exciting, funny. And luckily for me, they have decided to keep me on for a little while longer!
Dale, Cherie and Debs were discussing cups of tea earlier (I am so relieved that we are all avid tea drinkers) and who makes the best. A few names were mentioned, with varying descriptions of their attempts at tea. Quite funny really, but my attempts weren't commented on. Maybe this is an indication of my failure at tea-making? Or did they wait until I went out for my lunch? I suppose that it can't be too awful, or else I wouldn't have secured a longer placement!
I've mainly been helping Debs with data-base work, subscriptions and advertising. Aesthetica has such potential to continue growing and becoming stronger as a mag, everyone here is dedicated and focussed so it's such an exciting time to be here.
Enjoy your weekend!

Hello
Hello Everyone,
I thought it was about time I did another post on this rapidly developing blog. It has been a very exciting week thus far (as usual) and we have all been very busy in the Aesthetica office.
Since the Nick Broomfield interview, I have had two further fantastic interviews with musicians Alice McLaughlin and Amandah, the lead singer of 'Operator Please'. Both ladies were very lovely and it was wonderful to have the opportunity to speak to them. You can read these features in Issue 20 of Aesthetica Magazine.
In other news we have been working very hard on marketing and advertising and we have been receiving a brilliant response.
No doubt you will hear from someone else soon.
Take care everyone,
Shona x

What a great Monday
Hello
It's been a flurry of activity around here today! I mean that from the word go. We've been working on the cover design for the Oct/Nov issue. I've been planning content and organising interviews for the Dec/Jan issue, as well as sorting out shipping for a few thousand magazines that will make their debut in America at the NADA art fair in Miami. Cool beans.
We've also been chasing up last minute artwork from our advertisers, as well as getting a bundle of subscriptions in today from private schools. It's great.
Well, I must get going.
Cheers

Trumpets & ABBA on a Friday
Is there anyway of deleting things on this bloggy thing!!!!!!!! or does it remain on here for life?
I just wanted to reassure you all know that Cherie and I both have beautiful & soothing singing voices in which we use to serenade and entertain.
It could be worse I suppose. On more than one occasion Cherie has threatened to start learning how to play the trumpet and give us all a rendition. I keep putting her off though.
Random blog - but felt I needed to clarify.
Have a great Friday everybody.

Debut blogging and Beautiful Singing
Hi everyone!
It's my turn to blog today and this is my debut! I'm very excited!
Ok, so a bit about me. I'm an English Literature student at York St John University, and am currently going into my third and final year. This summer I was incredibly lucky enough to be offered an internship at Aesthetica Magazine, and my role here involves assisting Debs with marketing, general office tasks, reviewing books for the magazine and of course, making many many rounds of tea!
Today i have been working on our databases, retrieving information and making sure that the information we have is correct. I have also been twiddling about with our Facebook profile, which we're utilising at the moment to try and increase general knowledge of the magazine, and also to become a little bit more in contact with our readers. There is a link for this at the top of the blog!!
Daily life at Aesthetica is fast paced and exciting, and working with Cherie Dale and Debs, aswell as the other interns, is fun (and often musical, as Debs and Cherie are often prone to bursting into song! This morning it was 'The long and winding road'!).
Anyway back to work now, i'm sure you'll be hearing from someone at Aesthetica HQ soon!

Dancing
Does anybody remember Kris Kross? I don't..... but my colleague Dale does and he has just been demonstrating their crazy dancing styles in the office... I've been informed that that they wore their clothes backwards!
Anyway I shall introduce myself, my name is Shona and I am the Development Assistant at Aesthetica Magazine. This means that I deal with a variety of tasks, from assisting Debs with advertising and marketing to assisting Cherie with editorial work and writing features for the magazine.
Today I had the privilege to interview the esteemed British director, Nick Broomfield. It was an absolute pleasure to speak to him and he provided me with some exceedingly informative information, particularly regarding his new film 'The Battle for Haditha' (due in cinemas towards the end of the year and to be screened on More4 next year) and recent film 'Ghosts'. If you haven't already, I would really recommend checking out Nick's films, as they are very interesting and thought provoking. The feature on Nick Broomfield will be in issue 20 of Aesthetica, which is out on the 1st of December. In the current issue there is a feature on Ken Loach, another British director with a fantastic body of work, for any film buffs out there who are interested!
I am sure that you will get to hear some more exciting antics from the Aesthetica Office soon. Until next time, take care.

A good week so far
So far so good. It's been a great week! Last night I gave a speech at the NCGE dinner for graduate entrepreneurs. It was a great evening and wonderful to see so many recent graduates in the arts looking to start their own businesses. It's a tough old world out there and I feel that if you can pursue your dreams and ambitions as well as to get the ball rolling for your business then that is a job well done.
I was delighted to be a guest speaker. I feel that because I started Aesthetica while I was a student, I really understand what it's like to get something off the ground. The reality is that it's bloody hard work. I know a lot about hard work and determination. I think it's part of who I am now, or maybe I've always been that way.
Anyway, must get on and do some work. Hopefully, you'll be hearing from some of the other team members today.
All the best
Cherie

Happy days
Hi Everybody
I have been trying my hardest to grab a few extra minutes to add my own little blog but it has been so crazy busy for me this week I have not had the chance.
Just to give you a little info about me. My name is Debs and I am the Development officer for Aesthetica Magazine, which means that I am responsible for the advertising, marketing, sales, subscriptions, promotions and making sure my team of researchers and interns are all happy. Phew!
I have got a list a mile long for this afternoon. I have a meeting with Cherie to discuss new advertising & marketing strategies and then I'm going to crack on with
finalising artwork adverts, tying up loose ends with clients wishing to advertise and organising conference and art fair stock for issue 19.
(I have just been interrupted by Cherie and Shona manically dancing through the office doing what is now being called the 'Aesthetica Jigg.' I think I'm going to secretly film it and post it on U Tube - that was so funny)
Anyway, after that little burst of office excitement, I'm off to go make myself a cup of tea and get back to work.
I think you'll be hearing from the lovely Shona soon.
Bye all

A sense of completion
Good afternnon everyone! At last the new issue has been sent to be proofreader. I must admit how excitied I am that it is finished. Not to blow my on trumpet as well, but the design looks great and the content is top notch. It makes me really proud. We're going to be working on the cover today, which is rather sassy! I hope that our idea pans out, but you will also see come 1 October. Today has been filled with many things, workin on market research has been the top of my list. Discerning who reads Aesthetica Magazine. It's a big on-going task, but I like to find out who you all are! Now then, I should get back to my work. Hopefully, you'll hear from one of my colleagues today.
All the best

Good morning world
It's a wonderful day today. The weekend was pleasant, and I'm happy to begin the next lovely week at the Aesthetica HQ. We've had a tonne of post in this morning with some new subscriptions from schools, which is always a good thing. Today we're working on developing contacts at arts centres around the country as well as preparing for our interview with Nick Broomfield, which is very exciting.
The Oct/Nov issue of Aesthetica is nearly finished and we're just developing the cover image. I have to get the proof off to the proofreader later today. With regards to the Dec/Jan issue of Aesthetica it is well underway with many exciting things included.
Later this week we're heading down to London to the John Squire exhibition. On Tuesday, I'm giving a speech at the University of Hull. I'm actually really looking forward to it.
Today's tasks include editing two articles, and working on updating our website. So, I better get going but you'll hear from someone else on the team today as well.
Have a great day.
All the best
Cherie
